Best unis for Journalism !!

HELPP!! I am applying for unis atm and was wondering what would be the best place to go. I want somewhere that offers me an NCTJ and that’s quite reputable.

Oxford Brooke’s seems good but according to their course it seems like it’s more into writing and less digital media stuff.

Is there anyone that can recommend anything?

If your enquiry is specifically about Oxford Brookes, you might ask the moderators to move your thread to the Oxford Brookes sub-forum. For a more general enquiry about courses in journalism, maybe enquire in the sub-forum about journalism courses, as doing that might attract more answers (in addition to the very helpful answer above from StudentAC).

The University of Oxford doesn't run a journalism course for undergraduates, but many leading journalists studied a variety of other subjects there. For example, if you watch an edition of Channel 4 News presented by Kathy Newman, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, and Matt Frei, all three studied at Oxford.

Hi Anonymous #1,

I hope you're doing well! It's great that you're looking for a university that offers an NCTJ-accredited journalism course. Accreditations are a great thing to look for in a University degree and can help when applying for graduate jobs or postgraduate studies.

At Oxford Brookes, the Media, Journalism, and Publishing course is NCTJ-accredited, meaning you'll gain industry-standard qualifications alongside your degree. While the course strongly emphasizes news writing and storytelling, it also covers key digital media skills, including multimedia storytelling (video, audio, and online journalism), social media journalism, data journalism and analytics, shorthand (Teeline), media law, and public affairs (all part of NCTJ training).

Other universities may have a greater focus on broadcast journalism and TV/radio production, whereas Oxford Brookes offers a balance between written, digital, and multimedia skills - this is so you graduate with a diverse skillset. Oxford Brookes has brilliant academics and strong industry connections, and the teaching quality is high, meaning you may have more hands-on support than other journalism courses.

If you’d like to talk to some of the students and academics in the Journalism course, here is the link to our Open days: https://www.brookes.ac.uk/open-days/ug-oxford

If you'd like more details about student experiences, feel free to ask!
Best of luck with your applications!
