Second guessing my decision on uni course

Hi everyone,

I've applied to study physics/astrophysics (2025 entry) and have received offers so far from warwick and kings, waiting for decisions from ucl, imperial and cambridge (nat sci). i'm now second guessing my course decision and want to change to geophysics at imperial and nat sci at ucl. is this a good idea or should I just stick to the current course for now and reapply next year if this is still my preference? Especially since I have an astro focued personal statement. thanks!

this is kinda unrelated but do you think fm is a must for physics degrees? because i wanna also pursue a physics/astro sort of degree and i take physics, maths geography, i’m in y13, i want to apply to warwick/nottingham/leicester etc I’ve been told id be at a disadvantage without it, kinda worried lol..

If you decide to reapply next year, I think you can just call your uni before your course begins (after u accept offer/got a levels) and ask if they got space on that course? As they are kinda related ig? It’s probably unlikely knit u can try?

hi just out of curiosity (as I'm second guessing mine too lol), how would you go about switching for imperial and ucl specifically? If you've applied for cambridge you must have been early entry so the 2 week substitution period has ended by now?

Hi, just wondering - have you heard from UCL and/or Imperial yet? (& if so, whether you switched course?)
Thanks

Hi Mathsgirl,

Sure thing. If you no longer want to study Physics/Astrophysics, you can always change, but you should let the university know. You would most likely need to redo your statement again though. Just out of curiosity, what A levels are you doing? It would help me assist you further.

Hope to hear from you,

Hi there,

My best advice would be to contact the admissions teams from the different Universities as they will likely all have different policies regarding swapping courses before enrolling.

You may be advised to accept the offers for physics/astrophysics and then be able to swap to geophysics once you have enrolled and arrived at the University. You also may be able to be swapped on results day, depending on the amount of spaces available.

Alternatively, they may say the best option is to re-apply for the geophysical courses either through clearing, or having to re-apply entirely for 2026 entry if there are no spaces available.

Good luck!
