Cambridge Uni spaces for quiet study between Xmas and New Year

I’m a distance student with the Institute of Continuing Education and am not in Cambridge very often. However, I will be for a couple weeks over Christmas and the New Year.

It seems like a lot of the libraries will be shut during this time, including the main university library (and I understand that to access specific colleges’ spaces you need to be a member of that particular college anyway), but are there other spaces that are accessible to all students for quiet study? Bars/cafes/lobbies? Or other spots around the city that students recommend for quiet study (I know in some cities many places are not laptop friendly, especially where I’m from).

Any recommendations appreciated!

Because of the way Christmas falls this year, I suspect many university spaces will be taking the opportunity for longer closure periods. However, most commercial places in Cambridge are OK with laptop use. You could try Michaelhouse which is a church converted into cafe opposite Gonville and Caius. If any of the museums are open, you could try them, the Museum of Zoology has a light, bright cafe. The Hauser cafe or the West Cambridge Hub might be open, on the West Cambridge site, because they have more employees than students and some residences nearby,
