Horror dreams

Recently I've been having a lot of different bad dreams. I didn't have frequent horrors since childhood/teen years when my mental health was a wrack.

Now I wake up at around 3am and have to make my brain busy for about an hour to be back to normal.
I know it is part of ADHD and 2am-4am is the time when the brain is the most active, but still it happens almost everyday for the past two weeks... It messes up my sleeping pattern and my work schedule (especially the days I'm driving a lot and have to sleep well before). I'm lucky to have a flexible schedule where I can delay thing for an hour or two and be fine with that, but still it messes up my plans.

I'm pretty happy and not overly stressed and the dreams are not about something particular and sometimes just stupid dreams like being eaten by a monster.
I'm just so annoyed by this situation...

Hey, first of all I am sorry to hear you're having a tough time with your sleep right now. I am no expert but I can offer some advice on how to wind down before you go to sleep which might help...

Something I personally find helps me to get a better sleep is spending time away from any screens and distractions around 30 minutes before getting my head down is reading! If you're not an avid reader, it can be a tricky habit to get into but it is a calming activity and a good way to exercise your mind without watching tv or scrolling on your phone.

If your disrupted sleep continues though I'd recommend reaching out to your GP because your sleep is important to help you rest and recover.

Hope this helps

Hey.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Spending some time away from screens is difficult, but I will try it. I always thought it is a myth but it worth a try. I've been infront of screens before bed everyday for over 10 years, never really had problems with that.
I was a bookworm when I was younger, most of the school years. Later it became harder to read (eye fatigue) and I moved to screens which was easier (could make the font bigger). Ever since I found the ebooks and pdf versions of books and reading material, if I read, it's from a screen because it is the easiest.
I can try reading again.
Disrupted sleep is a part of ADHD as well. The time the brain is the most active is around 2am-4am. It is common. My ADHD is less visible because I mainly have the side effects of it (both good and bad). I'm not hyperactive at all, I can concentrate pretty well, that's why I wasn't diagnosed at school. I was almost straight A student and school was easy for me, but I do have the attention span issues, I have to take breaks and I have to have something on the background when I study. I am a night person. I have mood swings. I have dyslexia (almost unnoticeable). Waking up at 2am is OK, usually it is just to drink some water or use the bathroom, but still it is always 2am-4am. Having difficult time to recover from a bad dream is a part of ADHD too... I can't NOT think about the dream, and I'm going back to the same dream or just thinking about it non-stop, unless I manage to find something else to focus my mind on.

I will try reading, I actually have a few books I want to re-read.

Thanks again.

I don't have nothing to add as you have given fantastic advice already.

Maybe focus on feeling better, focus on your mood and thoughts before you sleep.

It doesn't really matter what my mood during the day is.

I still finding it very hard not to be in front of screens before bad and even during the night when I wake up.

Maybe my ADHD is getting more severe or I just notice more ADHD stuff. I've read that bad dreams is part of ADHD too.
