What to do when visiting universities

It’s that time of year again where those of you looking to head off to uni in September have to start looking at where you might want to go! Visiting universities is a great way to do this but it doesn’t help to be prepared to know what you should be looking for!

Do your background research- Whilst for me comparing league tables and collecting data on my university choices didn’t feel that important, to you it might be really helpful! Especially if you’re on a competitive course, it never hurts to have the background information on the unis your looking at! Performance, living Costs and employment rates are all things that people love to look at when choosing their university.

Prioritise- Knowing what you want from your uni experience is always in my opinion the most important thing! Whether the course you want to do is niche, you have specific hobbies you want to carry on through your uni experience or you just love a night out, it’s super helpful to know exactly what you want to get out of your time at uni. This is also helpful to help narrow down choices if you’re struggling to know where you want to go!

Take the day as it comes- one thing that I found super important when I was visiting universities, was taking everything as it was! The whole point of open days is getting a vibe of where it is you might want to study! If things aren’t feeling right in person for a uni you loved online that may be a sign! Don’t stress about having a perfect day because a realistic experience is far more important than living up to expectations!
