expired medication - whats the worst that could happen?

i came across some expired benzos while clearing out my drawer (07/2023). feels like a complete waste to throw them away - are they likely to be less potent?

Do benzos go out of date.........
The shelf life of Xanax often ranges from two to three years, and after this time, it may still be as potent as it originally was, or it could lose potency

Does Xanax expire after 2 years......
The shelf life of Xanax (alprazolam) is typically about two to three years. However, it's worth noting that the shelf life of a medication can be affected by different factors, such as the storage conditions and the specific formulation of the medicine.

Don't throw them out as take them back to the chemist you got them to safely dispose of them for you.

The pharmacodynamics might be different so they might not have the same effect they normally wood. I've taken expired opiates before and I had loads more side effects than I normally wood.

Thats what I thought when I read about it. They might not be as efficient as they should...

We often joke at home about things that are 'best before' and we call them 'worst after'. I think here is the same case.
