DSA support for underactive thyroid

Hey, I have an underactive thyroid it really affects me I feel tired all the time and stressed, and its really affecting me and my daily life ive had a lot of weight gain too and i'm going to be starting uni soon I wanted to know what support you could get from the DSA I was told to apply for it. But what will this include? does anyone know what support i could get.

If they accept your application it would be assistive technology - a laptop if you need it and then text to speech software, dictations software, note taking software etc.

Hello, I help learners submit DSA applications in a Further Education College.

I haven't come across a learner receiving DSA for Hypoparathyroidism, but I would still apply as it seems to meet the definition of a disability as being long term and affects your daily life (my partner has it too so I know what it is like).

Regardless of what disability/difficulty you have, you will need to provide evidence during the application process from your doctor. There is a DSA medical evidence form available online you can get them to fill in if you do not have a diagnostic report. It might be worth doing this early as there is often a 3 week delay on this.

Typical things learners get (depending on need)

1 2 1 academic support for an hour a week

a laptop with specialist software

financial support with travel costs

1 2 1 pastoral support for an hour a week

Alternate exam arrangements

You will be invited to a meeting by the DSA team, probably online, to discuss what is best for you.

If in doubt, just apply anyway and submit what evidence you have
