High similarity score on turnitin

I'm a kcl law student first year and this is my first assignment. I swear I didnt plagiairse or copy anything and i referenced everything i used. i checked the similarity score on turnitin and it said 34% and when i chekced what it highlighted a lot of it was the footnotes and individual words in a sentence. i cant even see some of the documents it is matched with and ive never seen any of the other documents. there isnt any large block of text or anything that it matched with. im very worried. i havent submitted it yet but idk what to do. pls help

Hey, Look closely at what Turnitin has highlighted. If it’s primarily footnotes and common phrases, that might not be an issue. Focus on any substantial matches and see if you can rephrase or clarify those sections. Make sure your references are formatted correctly sometimes if the format is incorrect it can lead to higher similarity scores. You might even want to speak with someone and address the issue to them maybe this may be acceptable seeing as it's mostly your footnotes as you mentioned. Hope this advice helps!!

The highest similarities are with two students papers but I can't even access those so idk what to do and how to see if it's similar. If I talk to my tutor would he help? Also do you think they'd kick me out of the uni for this?? I'm so sorry for all the questions I'm just very stressed. Jazakallah for the reply

No worries x Yes talk to your tutor he can help. They won't kick you out just let your tutor know about the situation. Don't worry you can ask as many questions as you like. Inshallah everything will be fine don't stress.

Did you check if the coversheet has been counted for the similarity score? I usually get around 20% from that alone.

It also depends on the length of the essay. If you have a 1500 word essay, anything under 30% is good, but if you're writing your dissertation that's 10k, you want that to be closer to 0%

We didn't have a coversheet because it's a formative. I did ask my tutor and he said they generally ignore when it highlights obvious pieces of text they know isn't plagiarised! I'll keep that in mind for my course works though. Thank you for the reply!!
