Switching universities after foundation year - [HELP]

I'm currently studying a Computer Science foundation year at UEA. I had a first year entry for CS at the university of Essex but I picked foundation year at UEA instead. I feel like I should use this as an opportunity to progress to an even better university. I want to study in either Sheffield, Surrey or Loughborough. So far I've contacted Sheffield and Surrey, and they've let me know the grades required that I need to achieve in my foundation year.

But how does this application work? I'm told that you need to start another UCAS application. If the application is unsuccessful can I still remain at UEA?

Apply via UCAS as normal.
You'll need to let your personal tutor know that you're going - they'll need to write a reference for you.
Upload all grades, including A'levels and module grades that you took during your FY.

And how do I add my foundation year? Since it isn't its stand alone qualification

There should be an "Other" section when you want to add a qualification. This is a free text entry where you can put the details in.

Hi there,

It’s great that you’re using this foundation year as a stepping stone to explore other universities! Since you’re looking to apply to Sheffield, Surrey, or Loughborough, you’re right that you’ll need to go through UCAS again for a new application, as transferring into the first year of their Computer Science courses would typically require a fresh application.

If your application is unsuccessful, yes, you can definitely remain at UEA as long as you meet the progression requirements for the Computer Science course here.

Even if you’re considering other options, UEA’s Computer Science programme is a great place to grow your skills, so you’d still be in a strong position to succeed if you choose to stay!

Best of luck,
Daniel

Hi there,

Yes, you would need to apply through UCAS if you are interested in progressing to Loughborough University, however it would be worth emailing the Admissions Office first, to ask them what the entry requirements would be. Their address is [email protected] and they will be happy to advise you.

Best wishes, Imogen
