Starter drinking??

Help im going to a party this weekend and I've never drank alcohol before. I'd like to drink occasionally at parties for example but I have emetophobia (fear of being sick) and so I've never tried incase the first time I drink I'd be sick.
In TV shows whenever characters come back from parties they're being sick due to them having alcohol, but I don't know if that's the case for peoples first times too.

Please help/did anything happen after the first time u drank??

unless you have some kind of intolerance to alcohol which is pretty rare you won’t automatically be sick if you drink - usually people only get sick if they drink too much. so just make sure you pace yourself and you’re aware of what you’re drinking. have one drink, give it a little bit and see how you feel as you may find your first time drinking you can get pretty tipsy just off one. you’re probably better off drinking beer/cider/mixed drinks etc. rather than going straight to doing shots of spirits in terms of pacing yourself! just be careful not to overdo it and don’t feel you have to drink as much as everyone else, they might have drank more in the past and have a higher tolerance than you. make sure you drink some water when you get home from the party too as staying hydrated will help you feel better the next day.

i have emetophobia too and i am a very light drinker, i’ll only have one or two and that’s enough for me to get some of the fun effects of alcohol without feeling sick or being hungover. other people at the party who drink more might get sick but it’s unlikely to happen to you unless you’re drinking heavily and you don’t have to do that.

just drink very slowly, i recommended for the first time you drink at home so you can find out your limits. also try to find out the alcohol % in the drink. IF you drink just enough to have a good time and not enough to get sick, trust me, it's great.
For me it started with a warmth going throughout my body - then my legs started feeling a bit wonky and then my brain just kinda wnt wonky. Idk I personally got a bit frustrated because I couldn't do anything with 100% accuracy but that;s just me, as long as you focus on having fun and staying with people you know and BEING SAFE !! you'll be fine. just drink slowly and if you start to feel a warmth i'd tone it down.
some extra FYI's ;
drinks with gas get you drunk faster
drinking slowly gets you drunk faster

the first time you drank did you feel sick at all?
In time you'll get to know your limits, but pace yourself, and stop drinking if you start to feel nauseous. Personally I can take four double vodka + mixers on an empty stomach and still be okay. Give me a fifth one though and I'll be sick.

DO NOT drink too quickly, otherwise one minute you'll think "oh I'm fine" and five minutes later you're absolutely gone.

Do not mix your drinks either - i.e. don't have beer for one drink, and vodka for the next. Terrible idea.

The other thing, if you drink on an empty stomach your tolerance is going to be much lower than if you've just eaten a substantial meal before going out.

Finally, drink a lot of water before you go to bed.

didn't feel sick at all! it did make my body feel strange (like a heavy feeling), maybe a tiny bit of dizziness and mainly it just makes everything seem 10x funnier than it normally should be for me - it's definitely a good feeling to be a bit tipsy having had a drink or two. but maybe just stick to one or two for your first time until you learn your limits and remember you won't feel the effects straight away so don't drink loads all at once. if you try it and don't enjoy the feeling btw that's perfectly fine, you don't have to drink at parties if you don't want to. but it is worth trying rather than letting the emetophobia convince you to avoid it as it'll rule your life if you let it and that's not a great place to be in with your mental health. Have fun at the party :smile:

Not everyone is sick from drinking alcohol, I think if you wish to try it, don't go beyond your limits (you usually know when you don't feel okay) or just remember it's perfectly okay to not drink alcohol! No one should judge you for this decision. Take care of yourself and enjoy your time, don't feel pressured into anything you don't want to do and most importantly enjoy your time :smile:
