HELP) making decision for future..

Hi~
I wanna ask about choosing what I want to study in the future.
Cuz I really don’t know among biomed, med and pharmacy…

I’m confused by one of the biggest questions,
‘am I thinking too much about the reaction from my parents or others,
if I choose another path which is not medicine.
Cuz entire of my life, I never thought about any other fields except medicine…
I always postpone of facing the reality or my worries cuz I thought maintaining the state of keep thinking that I wanna be a doctor was stable.
However, for now, I really don’t know am I really wanna be a doctor or even am I truly want to study medicine.
( whereas I like studying bio ;; )

In addition, I really don’t know what I want to study,
cuz when I check the courses each one of them,
to be honest all (biomed, med and pharmacy) seem like pretty fun…
I even try to find any relevant answer from chat gpt like requiring the comparison of job stability, future demand and prospect for growth and specific standard which is really obvious to decide between biomed vs med etc.
I need help to decide…

+) Transferring biomed to med is really allowed in any universities in the UK…?

Hi @_JH,
My name is Dom and I am a 4th year Pharmacy student at the University of Nottingham!

Pharmacy as a degree has had a massive upgrade in recent years, with all MPharm graduates who complete their foundation training from 2026 onward now qualifying as prescribers!

If medicine isn't the degree for you pharmacy has a lot of the same content and skills required, however more tailored towards the medication. The degree itself has a fair amount of biology, chemistry and newer topics like pharmaceuticals and pharmacology. So hopefully they'll be topics you might enjoy too?

In terms of the degree as a whole, they prepare you for careers in Hospitals, community, industry and now GP. So you will have many chances to work beside doctors and nurses and a whole range of other healthcare professionals. And at the end of the degree you feel like you want to pursue medicine then you can use the MPharm to do a graduate entry medicine degree which is shorter than the usual medicine degree and you'll already have lots of knowledge to apply!

If you want to know more about Pharmacy, just reply to this message!

Dom 🙂

Yes, transferring from bio med to med is allowed, but read as each school varies slightly!

If you’re not sure what to pick, imagine it as a degree first rather than a job, it’s what you’re going to commit yourself to for the next few years. I would advise that you go onto a university page and look at the course content and modules of each degree and see which one you think fits you best.

Don’t decide on parent’s view, all three of those degrees are incredible and competitive nonetheless.
