URGENT!! A Level Subject Choices

Hi guys, I don't have much time to dwell on these anymore because there's a certain deadline to switch subjects. I currently do Literature in English, Economics and Sociology as my A level subjects, but I've seen almost everywhere that it's best to do History. For reference I'd really like to go to Cambridge and I don't want anything to bring down my application. Open to any input!!

What course do you want to apply for at Cambridge? Before you switch subjects, you should check your courses subject requirements.

Well for Cambridge, History English and Languages are recommended for strong applicants. But you dont need to necessarily take these subjects. I know a friend who is applying to law with math bio and history. Law is a course where any subjects can be relevant as u can have medical law etc. As long as you have an essay subject then whatever you pick is fine.

I recommend checking this website if you’re still stuck.

As above, law doesn’t have any subject requirements. While Cambridge does recommend certain subjects, it’s not the same as having a preference for them. Switching to history will also not guarantee you a place there, nor will any subject combination. I didn’t study any recommended subjects (I study psychology, philosophy and politics) and nobody was concerned about this when submitting my application. I’ve never heard of people being rejected on the grounds of subject combination for law, but perhaps if the subjects are too similar, it could be a possibility. But in short, your current combination is fine. What’s more important is getting the A*AA predictions you need to apply at the end of Year 12.
