Is my Subject Selection Acceptable?

I'm a Year 12 student currently taking Maths, Physics, Geography and English Language and my subject combination is stressing me out for my subject application being weak compared to thousands of Oxbridge applications.

The school I go to is very new and I've honestly never heard anyone with this subject combination for a STEM/Science based individual and the allegations of Geography being an irrelevant subject for my Uni application.

About Me- I am considering to study (Engineering/Psychology)

Is this diversity acceptable or not?

Any advice would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

You dont need 4 A levels - drop either Geog or English and just focus on getting top grades in just 3.
Geog is a very useful subject for Uni applications as most Unis will count it as both a Humanities and science-related subject.

Hey,

I wouldn't say that any subject combination is 'weak', the main thing that the universities will want is that you meet their criteria. Even with Oxbridge, they like diversity and will not want all their students to be the same and think the same way. As long as you think you can get the grades that you need by taking those subjects, and you meet the requirements for the courses you want to apply for, then you are good.

You also have to think of the reasons why you want to do what you have chosen. You are much more likely to put more effort into a subject you enjoy and therefore do better in that subject. Follow what you are passionate about as long as it is not detrimental to what you want to pursue. - also has your school recommended that you do 4 A levels instead of 3 - as you only need 3 subjects, or is that your own choice?

I hope that makes sense!

Thank you for your response!

My school focuses more on taking 4 subjects for Year 12. These subjects have to support what you would want to pursue, and honestly, I do not mind at this level.

You don't need to stress about "the combination". Engineering usually requires maths and physics. You have that. Your other subjects will give you essay-writing skills. And if you like geography and you think you can do well in it, then why not take it?

Further maths could be helpful for engineering applications but most of the time, getting offers is the easy part, getting the grades is the hard part.
