Is 6th form or college better for the BA Hons animation course?

I've been looking for a place to study animation that suits me, and I've found multiple level 3 extended diplomas for college that are exactly what I'm looking for. The only problem is my family aren't very approving of college, and really want me to go to a sixth form instead. I know that you CAN do the BA hons animation degree for uni if you go to sixth form, but I really wouldn't want to do it because it's really not for me. I don't know what option is objectively better though (or if there an an objective advantage to any at all) so if anybody could give me their own answer based on experience or knowledge, I'd appreciate it!

Hey @Kbm__!

There's a lot of pathways into careers in the arts, including animation - and whilst yes, attending university and studying an animation-related degree is one of them, so is studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma at college and building on that route with work experience/internships.

If you don't feel like sixth form and university is the right path for you, I'd recommend trying to talk to your parents about your longer term goals, especially if the content of an Extended Diploma is exactly what you're looking for. Furthermore, if you do decide you want to go to university at a later stage, you'll be able to do so through the Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification - you're still leaving that option open. 🙂

Best of luck,

Is the college course you’re looking at a UAL Extended Diploma? If so than any animation BA will accept that for entry (though you might need to get a merit or higher for the more popular courses)
