Anyone applying to the physician associate masters course at uclan?
Hi @selinaxo,

How are you? Although I haven't studied on the MSc Physician Associate Practice programme myself, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about applying here and share with you some information on student life at The University of Central Lancashire.

Do let me know if you have any questions at all. 😊

Best wishes ^Sarah

I applied in September and it took me 2 months. For you it will probably take 2-3 weeks or less. Can you let me know if you get an interview and on what date

Hello Rebecca,

I have a question regarding placement sites. What are the placement sites for students.

Hi @AD_ADMIT ,

Hope you are well. For information on placements whilst studying at UCLan, I'd recommend visiting this link: Information for all year groups about medicine placements - UCLan. It's full of great information!

If you have any further questions give us a shout. 🙂

Could you answer the question from some of the other posters on here who are asking about the Physician Associate course not the medicine course. As you know Physician Associates are not studying medicine so information about the medicine course does not help them.

Hello Rebecca,
I have a question regarding placement sites. What are the placement sites for students.

Hi there, thank you for your message and patience. I have reached out to one of our lecturers in Physician Associate Practice and will let you know as soon as they come back with more information around placement options and sites. In the mean time, if there's any other questions you may have let us know 🙂

Best wishes,
^Zac

I'm a student on the UCLan PA course and this is my 3rd year . My advice is do not join it. There is a very high level of uncertainty for the future of PAs and UCLAN is not telling new students they are interviewing. We are currently being offered jobs such as the Aldi graduate program and to leave with a clinical science degree (for MPAS) or postgrad diploma certificate. (MSC-MPAP).
The uni is not helpful at all, especially the course leaders. They will happily take your money, but nothing is given when it comes to supporting PA students. They will tell you when you start the course PAs have a good future, but honestly, when going on placement, this has been the opposite of what we are being told as students.
The only thing UCLAN PA course cares about is making their course look good, but as for the wellbeing of students, that is not prioritised at all! Many students were lied to and were told that they were going to be given options for placements. When the time came, they were told options were not considered based on home postcodes.
Here are the locations for Hospitals: Blackburn, Preston, Chorley, Whitehaven (Westlake-Cumbria), and Liverpool. People who have had accommodation, have had to move out in some instances such as Whitehaven which is in the middle of nowhere and you are there for 8 weeks, followed by 2 more blocks of 8 weeks on placement.
Uclan oversubscribes the course ( as they combine the undergrad PAs and Postgrad PAs) and at the start, this is so bad. There is a big gap between the two groups initially which eventually settles down (or as they say)...
My recommendation would be, to not join any PA program now, and if you still want to, then do not join it at UCLAN. You will not get the support you need as a PA student, They care more about little things such as not wearing trainers in a clinical session even though everyone wears them at the hospitals.

Wdym uclan is not telling new students they are interviewing?

I am an MPAS student at uclan, the uni is actually saying they are getting positive vibes from the leng review and less than 12 months ago their employability rate from graduates was 100%. They are submitting evidence towards the leng review to show how robust and rigourous the course is and so is every other PA school. Last year I also attended a meeting when with members of the GMC before regulation when they came to visit uclan and they were very impressed about the structure of the course. Yes you might get placed far on your placements but this is a possibility at any university and on any course.

The university was giving us options on what we could do IF WE wanted to leave the course such as getting a clinical science Bsc or diploma however. They emphasised that they believe it is best if we stay on the course (and finish this current academic year) and wait for the outcome of the leng review before we decide what we'd like to do & again they said from discussions they've has with other universities and this conducting the leng review the future of PAs is looking positive for the next few years. Yes, at the minute job prospects arent the best but this is expected during a time of limbo like this, once this has all blown over there will be an increase in jobs because the GMC wouldn't have regulated PAs if they weren't needed. At the end of the end it's YOUR own decision if you want to do the course, if your bright enough to secure a place then you're more than capable of making a decision based on everything you've seen or heard.
