How do you structure the 40 Mark question in the GCSE paper? My teacher keeps trying to explain it but because of my autism I can't take it in and now he's refusing to say. Could anyone tell me please?

Hi! It depends on which paper you're talking about. By the way, there's not one specific structure you have to use for this question, but this is the advice I've been given...

Paper 1 (Fiction)
Basically, you will need to write a story. There will be two different questions to choose from - one of them will come with pictures which you could use to help come up with an idea!! Here's a screenshot of what it might look like...

I would recommend writing five paragraphs. We've been taught to use the "narrative arc" structure. Basically, it starts calm and then the story builds up to become more tense, but then calms down again. I like to draw a hill when I'm planning to remember it and you can write your plan on this. For example, it could look a bit like this...

1. The first paragraph should be a description of the setting. You need to show off all your metaphors, similes, pathetic fallacy, and lots more descriptive device which you've learnt about in this paragraph.

2. In the second paragraph, the story should start to come together. You could introduce your character and maybe they could face some obstacles? So you should be trying to build tension.

3. The third paragraph is the climax, which is the most tense part of the story. Something dramatic should happen here.

4. Now, the story continues to unravel. Maybe your character needs to try to do something to put it right?

5. The end! Think about if the ending should be happy or sad.

Paper 2 (Non fiction)
There will be two different options for the 40 marker on this paper as well. The difference is that you need to write something which sounds factual - although you can make the facts up!! For example, it could be like this...

In this case, you'd need to write either a speech or an article. The structure will change depending on what you've been asked to write. They could also ask for a review, biography, letter, travel writing, blog, or any other type of non fiction.

I hope this helps!! I'd be happy to answer any other questions 💕
