Any tips for maths + english

Hi, I’m in year 11 studying Edexcel Maths and AQA English Lit/Language
Im currently sitting at a 8/9 in maths and 7/8 in English lit/lang
Could anyone send me some tips on how I could improve ratios and probabilities in maths because those are letting me down from a 9
Also does anyone have a good way to remember quotes in English and time management cause I’m poor at both 😢😢

I Did the same exam boards for my GCSE’s and I did very well. So here are some tips. For maths use MATHS GENIE that’s the best thing I can tell you, the topics you described as your weaknesses are very prominent there and if you want to challenge yourself more use Dr.Frost Maths. For English best thing I can say is make flashcards analysing the quotes, they can be in Mindmap form on flashcards.Think of it this way, don’t overwhelm yourself when making notes and mind maps but rather think of the big and juicy ideas connected to those quotes and then go into detail. For English, consistency is key to remembering, so everyday make flashcards over and over until you are confident. Use the lietner Method for that, it surprisingly works. For time management, make a revision timetable where everyday you allocate a certain amount of time to things. For instance, on Monday’s from 5-5:45, you do flashcards and analyse quotes and then on Tuesday’s from 4-5 you try a past paper. Also, one last thing, study in chunks, not like 1hr and something all at once, that will just wear you down and you won’t be able to concentrate after the first hour. Anyways, hope some of this helps

Yes thank you so much and what you mentioned about the lietner method I’m not too familiar , could you explain . I think the main problems in maths is the hard grade 9 questions like at the end and some silly mistakes 😅😅

What is the Leitner System?
The Leitner System is a spaced repetition technique for learning with flashcards.
Cards are sorted into boxes based on how well the material is known.
Correctly answered cards progress to boxes that you don't need to review as often, while incorrect ones are moved back to the first box for more frequent review.
It turns the learning process into a kind of game where the aim is to have your flashcards as far along the chain of boxes as possible.

SMALLER, SIMPLER VERSION: you have packets or boxes that you can number. It is a way of remembering flashcards, if on the first day you get 2 flashcards right and 3 wrong, you place the 2 flashcards in the 2nd packet, so you don’t have to practice it the next day, but rather the day after. However, the 3 that you struggled with you place them back into the 1st pack and revise them the next day. The aim is to get them to the farthest packet (whatever number you reach), and then you repeat the process once you are confident with all so that you keep remembering the knowledge

I wrote an entire paragraph and The Student Room Said it’s under review because I am new 😭. Sorry, also I 100% know what you mean about the last questions. The edexcel higher papers last questions last year were 😒

Yea i did AQA maths but Edexecl exam board is very similar to AQA my teacher used to set me like the last section of edexecl past papers for revision as it is the same, with hard questions. I understand the probability this i hated probably as well but then i just practiced it a lot and i got better!
maths in specific i was becoming really sloppy with like in year 9 i used to be a consistent close to full marks, but into year 10 i was just getting 9's but in year 11 mocks it all went down hill, i was i mark into a 8 and this is when i got my wake up call and what i did form here was pure magic, the main thing for maths is past paper question just keep practicing question in your spare time it so good for your brain to come back and revise and get those topic lists your teachers give and rag rate it and go through the ones you are unsure and try to do lots of exam question to do for them and, try to see where you are dropping marks, and form there your grades will speak for themselves ! ( i used this website for any topic i am unsure of as it has videos and worksheets for every topic : https://corbettmaths.com/contents/), ( and i would do lots of past papers for maths, the more you do the better)
for English literature, make flash cards with quotes like 3 quotes for each character and theme for each book make sure the quotes are really good so no matter if it is a theme question or character question you can apply it to both , make sure the quote is rich so you can analyse one thing and zoom in further like look at something else this is where your getting those extra good marks! and timing watch some videos on youtube about how much paragraphs you should write for each paragraph and stick to like one paragraph structure this can really help with timing as, using the structure PRTEZEL, point reference(quote),technique, effect, zoom in on a word, effect and link this means you dont waste time on things you dont need to do, and pratcie doing paragrahs try doing paragraphs in like 6 mins , the more you pratcie the better you get hope that helps! anything else fell free to ask !
