Pre degree nerves

I'm due to start in the hospital next month and my degree via bpp apprenticeship in March next year.

I was really excited to start but I have seen so many student nurses drop out due to exhaustion etc

Is it really that bad? 🥺

Everybody will tell you a different story about how nursing is ok.

It's very hard work especially if your doing a placement on a ward that is very short staffed and you are doing more work than you usually do so you are going to be more tired.

I found nursing good and had no problems with the course and any placements. Getting used to various working shifts patterns is the thing you have to get used to ( day shifts, Nightshift and weekends working) especially if you are only use to doing things during the week only. Once you get use to working the different shifts you'll be fine with that.

At the end of the day you doing 3 years of hard work but it's worth it when you qualify.

A lot of students drop out for various reasons - it's not always down to exhausting, it could be that they having mental health issues or other health problems , can't cope with long shifts, getting up very early to go to your hospital placement and not always home until about 9.30pm onwards depending on how far away you are from home.
Trying to keep up with your coursework and then having a good night out with friends.

Only way you'll find out about nursing is when you finally start doing placements etc. you might find it is fabulous but again you may think 🤔 🤔 🤔 it's not what you thought it going to be like.

Each hospital has absolutely wonderful staff who'll be helpful to students etc and you'll have some places that staff won't give students the time of day.
Good luck with your nursing journey 😀 😀 😀

You are welcome 🤗 🤗 🤗

Yes it sounds like you having a bit of anxiety that you letting it get to you 😔 😔

Hopefully you will be fine with doing it when start, any issues then speak asap about it with your immediate ward sister or manager and if unsatisfied about it still then you need to speak to your course leader.

Hi. Im studying MSc Mental Health Nursing with a job and three children. It can be extremely challenging but u need to get in a routine with everything. Which us hard as well I am currently on placement which is my 2nd but for me my 1st. This is due to my DBS not arriving I am trying to set goals and just do my very best. Im 40 this year and have always wanted to achieve this. Best thing to do is stay and try to be focused in your goals. It is a very intense role. But for you to be in the course thats saying you have got this. Believe in yourself and remember your personal tutors are there to support you through this.
