heyy do you mind lmk what the exam questions were like? I think my class is behind on the theory tbh and I’m worried there will be questions I haven’t prepared enough for!!

hii im rn attending the application stage and was wondering, because im a dt student, if i can just upload my nea (coursework) or if its better to make something from scratch. also, i heard that this year the exam is online, so do u have any tips on what to learn, etc? just for context, for my final product im making like an automatic feeder with a dc motor, and infrared motion sensors for my user's cat. thank uu

hiii! so for my project, i have no background in dt or anything so what i made was from scratch however i know many people who submitted their nea as their project and got in! for the exam, i will give you some links on how i prepped for the exam, but first i cant stress enough how important it is in the application to show your passion and enthusiasm for engineering and why the scholarship would be pivotal to you. You need to show that you are a future leader in STEM too, and basically show off yourself. A really important part of my application was, as i was told later on, my experiences in teaching/volunteering and obviously, my project. im sure you know all of this already but as i didnt i used https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zvg4d2p
this one is also super helpful! https://www.technologystudent.com/index.htm
in the exam make sure to state what materials you are using and JUSTIFY it, do the same with mechanisms, show why you are using certain gears/pulleys/cams, belts etc and justify their use. annotate a LOT! i also reccomend using a flow chart on the side to show how youre solution will work in practicality. Circuit symbols and drawing circuits if used is also a good shout. Read through the markers' comments and example answers, so you can get an idea of what they are looking for. The markers' comments are very useful! I hope this all helps.

Hi! i understand that youre exam format is a little different from what i sat but here was the paper i sat last year
https://www.arkwright.org.uk/downloads/aptitude-exam-exemplars/2024-exemplar-materials/aptitude-exam-paper-2024.pdf
so i did question 3 of part A, for one design i used simple coding which just essentially locked the scooter through different chains and padlocks and could only be accessed by the user via fingerprint id which i roughly coded , the next i used magnitesm and magnetic devices which would be on the floor of where the scooter was laid and the third i used clamps which would again be lined with magnetism and could be broken through a code from a safe/device issued to you. for part B i did question 6 and did an extensive flow chart. In the exam i did these obviously, in a lot more depth i cant stress enough how important it is to annotate your diagram. Use flow charts, circuit symbols, coding, ANNOTATE THE MATERIALS YOU ARE USING AND MECHANISMS AND JUSTIFY THEM! My school did not offer any prep for the exam and i have no background in dt so the way i prepared was completely independently so you will be fine! What i used to prep was, https://www.technologystudent.com/index.htm and https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zvg4d2p ! The questions are similar format to what i showed you, they are all engineering styled questions that will require you to show youre problem solving and knowledge of practicality of mechanisms. I hope this helps!

I did it today, it was 40 mins and multiple choice for all but nothing like last yr’s paper. There were like 16-21 questions per section which we had 10 mins for and mostly hypothetical and physics questions. Honestly I’m not sure if i did well or not but hopefully I can succeed like u!!

omg! im so proud of you! so im assuming the interview was similar to that of last year, if it wasnt i apologize but if it is heres my help!! so, you need to know WHY you want to be an engineer, they will ask you questions about your first choice of specilization eg questions about MechEng so i advise you go over the basics of your first choice, they do ask basic questions. the interview is more relaxed than i expected, they ask a decent amount on your project and i highly reccomend adding in a second project (it was optional for us) so it gives you more depth. they place a lot of emphasis on leadership, why youll be a good future leader in stem and how you see yourself in the next 10 years! so be ready for all of that

Okay perfect, thank you so much! I'm going to start working on my presentation over the holidays so I'll add a second project!

Hey there! I picked MechEng as my first choice do you have any tips on where I can learn more about the basics? I know a small amount but I just want to expand my knowledge before the interview just incase

Do you have any questions they may potentially ask for the interview I picked mechanical and aeronautical engineering

hi yes! so the ask a lot on why you would be a good leader, they ask a lot about your projects too, suprisingly it's not too much about engineering but again largely on how you will impact the world/community as an engineer. I imagine they'll ask about space, (thats what they did for my friend who chose aero) about new discoveries and planets and for mech im not too sure im so sorry!

Do you have anywhere where I can study the basics of aerospace engineering? Thank you!
