Can I "top up" my Btec Level 3 Diploma?

In 2020-2021 I studied the Children's Play Learning and Development course, this was a really hard time for me, my Nan got really ill and later passed so I decided to not go the extended route to be able to spend more time with her.
After two years of being a teaching assistant I decided I'd like to try and become a teacher but it seems that not choosing extended has ruined my chances as I don't have enough UCAS points to get into a childhood studies and primary education BA course.

I got a Merit in my level 3 foundation diploma which I am now finding out counts for nothing? (please correct if this is worth any UCAS points) And a Distinction Merit in my level 3 National Diploma which is only 80 points.

Is there any way I can extend my diploma now to achieve the points I need? I'm in Suffolk and all my options seem so limited because I'm not near any big cities.

Given that you refer to a "level 3 National Diploma", would I be right in assuming that this is a "Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development"?

If so, then yes - you can top-this up to the Extended Diploma. See here for confirmation and for the process your chosen college would need to follow to register you.

As yes, if you've done the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma and then the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma, then the Foundation Diploma would carry no UCAS points as it forms part of the Diploma, in the same way that the Diploma forms part of the Extended Diploma - hence why you can "top-up" from one to the other. So if you gained UCAS points for it you be gaining UCAS points for the same work twice.

Thank you for your reply it gives me hope. And sorry yes I have the Pearson Btec Level 3 National Diploma in Children's Play Learning and Development with a Distinction Merit.

How do I top up my diploma then? I know I can't do it myself but I haven't been at college for two years now so I don't have a college to register me. Do you know of any colleges in Suffolk that would support me in doing it? Or are there any online centres that could do it?

You can't do BTECs on-line, because they're so coursework-based. I suggest you contact you previous college (assuming you still live nearby) and ask if they can offer you a "top-up" course from the Diploma to the Extended Diploma.

I'm not aware of a register or list of colleges which offer this, so if your previous college can't help then you'll simply need to contact some others nearby and check with them.
What do you want to do with these qualifications - ie. have you looked at any Uni websites to see what you need for a teaching degree?

You may find it more realistic to look at doing A levels, or an Access to HE course (Access to Higher Education) at a local college.
