do my november mock results impact whether i get a place in my desired 6th form?

ive got mocks starting 18th nov till somewhat end of the month. and right now as im revising with only one week left i dont think i can lock it in. i want to study bio chem psychology for a-levels however even though im still in higher triple science i dont think im going to pass. im going through everything from the beginning and making flash cards, i seriously did not get anything getting taught at school and im worried that with such little time left to cram in every single chapter and topic in my sciences i dont think i can pull it off, biology being one of my first exams.

and so i prompt the question that is my mocks really going to affect the 6th form application?? i was thinking about prioritising only my sciences and maths to remain in higher and triple so when the time for gcses come, i will be able to properly revise knowing i have a chance, but lets say i get 6’s throughout my mocks for sciences and maths (my goal) and maybe 7 or 8s in gcses would i get a better chance in securing a better sixth form? since the sixth form i want to go to is the best in the area and has high competition.

simply said, if i fail my mocks do i still have a chance of going to that sixth form with the grades i get with gcses, even though we give in our mock results in year 11??

I think you will still have a chance one of the best colleges in England is near me and a lot my friends applied there and didn’t get a place even tho they had the required grades but when we got our gcse results they all replied and every single one got a place. I’m not saying for definite that the college you want to go have the same system but what I am saying is that there is a chance
I think it depends which sixth form or college but for mine they accepted mot people. It is based on the predicted grades that your teachers give you. If you don't pass biology and maths GCSE, they might speak to you about changing your options but you seem to havea good plan to revise more for the real thing. Do you know the entry requirements for your subjects? I would suggest finding these out and speaking to someone in the sixth form about your situation. They are usually really friendly and can hopefully answer your question better than I can! It mostly depends on when the deadline is to apply and whether your predicted grades will have changed since then. Good luck and let me know if any if this us unclear as I am happy to explain more!

hi the entry requirements are basically 5 or 6’s, primarily 6s. the applications for the 6th form is already open and will close in january 8th next year. but there is a LOT of competition and im sure those with grades 8s and 9s will get accepted and makes me think if i can even have a chance. but even though i have a good plan to revise for my actual gcses, as u said if i had failed bio and maths and chem phys blablabla im just worried i’ll get moved down to foundation and combined, if that happens then i wont be able to pursue a career in veterinary and i just do not know what to do in case i fail. my sister went to that 6th form so i know much about it already, but if anything talking with her makes me think i wont even pass in life

This may not be groundbreaking advice but I think the best thing to do is not panic and give up. I know it may seem very tempting but it's just going to make your grades worse. Prioritise maths and biology and practice as much as possible - your result might surprise you as mine did. I got quite a lot higher than I thought. What predicted grades have your teachers given you?

i mean im alright with biology, i just finished paper 1 revision and will go ahead and attempt the 2024 past paper but im more so worried about chemistry or physics ugh i just HATE them. my predicted grades areee
bio 7
business 3+
chem 6- (whtever that means)
eng lang 4+
eng lit 4+
history 6
math 5+
physics 6-
pre 6+
spanish 4-

these are from year 10 as i dont have one for year 11 yet, also heavily based on my year 10 mocks (obviously did NOT do good..) i seriously need to up my game. i recently got my liz history paper back and got a grade 7?? which is shocking as i wasnt feeling well during that test and didnt even write a conclusion..

for eng im doing blood brothers a christmas carol and macbeth (honestly wish we did inspector calls instead of blood brother but whatever) and for the poetry we are doing the conflict section

sciences are all aqa and the others mostly edexcel, but yeah that's all!

Okay, those grades look good! Obvs it could be better but a 7 in bio and 5+ in maths is good. And you're predicted to pass almost everything. A 5+, I'm guessing, means you aren't far off a six so hopefully you can boost that grade in these mocks! If not, speak to your teacher about it as some will bump you up a grade if you ask. Again, my best advice is to take advantage of people at your school, and email the sixth form if you're not sure. Those grades look good though!

are they allowed to bump up a grade?? i mean how do i bring it up - but yeah i guess they’re alright but ive def rusted up a bit now, as i was attempting the bio paper i couldve even get through the whole stupid paper so i need to learn stuff more in depth and be able to use applications to it and whatever. im planning at least grades 6’s for what im choosing for a-levels and maybe 5s or 4s for the rest, as what is stated on the sixth forms application requirements Uahghdaghs but thank you for your help!! seriously it means a lott
Heyyy
I'm in year 12 now and I would say that your mocks are important in whether the sixth form offers you a place. If you haven't met the grade requirements in any of your subjects you can check with your teachers and try to increase the predicted grade otherwise you might not get a conditional offer. However, even if you do not receive a conditional offer you can still go to the sixth form/college on results day with your actual gcse results to see if you can get in as many people with conditional offers from multiple sixth forms will only reject their place on the day so if your mock results aren't the best don't stress too much and just focus on doing well in your gscse

Good luck xx

hi! thanks for responding. how do i bring it up to the teachers? do i do it after i get my mock results or before and has it been proven to actually work? honestly im so cooked but i know i need to lock in as there still is a chance that if i dont get an offer based on my mocks they could still reject my gcse results or whatever because of some waiting list. but yeah, thank u so much for the advice!

I’m not saying it’s a definite they will accept if you reapply but the college I’m talking about a lot of people wanted to go there from my school as it was kinda nearby and top 10 in England. The people who got rejected got an a email saying if “you really want a place you can reapply on results day and get an interview eveyone know reapplied and had the requirements got in. I’m not sure if the college u want to go to have the same system but you can always ask for reassurance.
Also u mentioned u wanted to do Chem at college and u also mentioned u hate chem and physics. If u hate it rn it’s rly likely u aren’t going to like it much at a level. I’m in year 13 and I know people who chose a levels they didn’t like at college and ended up dropping the subject it’s likely u won’t like it but at the same time things might turn around and u do amazing in chem and enjoy it at a level !

The first step will be the offer of a place with grade requirements - no places are actually given until results day.

Check the over-subscription rules as that will explain how they award places if too many achieve offer grades.
