The Student Room Group

Would you use this delivery service?

Grocery shopping opportunities in my uni city are pretty dire and delivery fees are kind of expensive here, so it got me thinking about a business idea.

Key Points

Order food, drinks, toiletries etc. via app/website (think Tesco website, or UberEats app).

Items delivered in the evening (same-day if ordered before midday, otherwise tomorrow evening).

Items delivered without you needing to be there (left at reception, kitchen etc. or some other safe location).

Fixed £1 delivery fee and no small order fee.

Own-brand items available.

All I want to know is this. If you are/were in halls or some other type of student accomm, would you use a grocery delivery service where you order via app/website, and groceries were delivered same-day or next-day to your building without you having to be there?

Basically like supermarket delivery but no small-basket fee, cheaper slot fee, and don't have to be there at certain time. Cheaper and more variety than UberEats/Deliveroo, but not instant delivery (would have to wait till 5/6pm).

Would the benefits be enough to get you to either switch from your current online shop, or convert from shopping in person to online?

I know it sounds crazy, and am sure there's going to be a lot of comments questioning the profitability of something so seemingly impossible to sustain, but would love to hear your thoughts on whether you would hypothetically use something like this, and how much you would order in a week in terms of £.

Thanks
i would 100% do this every day for things. i live in a student house but sometimes it’s so difficult to get out the house when my schedule is so busy to do things like food shopping and errands. it’s extra hard when we haven’t got a reception like at student halls to take in parcels for us so someone has to be waiting in for their deliveries. so yes 100%
Go and get your own shopping - 'my schedule is so busy' if frankly laughable.

Thanks for the response. That's part of why I think it would be useful. If I had a full day of lectures, or it was pouring down, I would've definitely used something like it if it was available
