N5 English Portfolio

I am currently working on my portfolio and have decided to write a discursive essay. I would like to know if referencing books or animated series is allowed, to support my arguments for or against the topic.

It's allowed as long as you quote the text directly from the book/animation series or say it in your own words and also mention it in your bibliography

I am planning to just summarize in my own words what happened in the book/series. Then explain how this ties in with the argument. Is this allowed?

Yes it is, as long you don't copy the exact words without quoting because that's plagiarism, you can also say where you got your info from, for example 'According to (the source).. ' . I just finished my N5 persuasive essay so that's what I did.
