What are the major concerns of a typical student who wants to study abroad?

Hi there,

I'd say a lot of people who study abroad are concerned about money.

It can be difficult to know just how much the experience will cost as you have to factor in so many things. This includes plane tickets, health and travel insurance, fun experiences, day-to-day living, visa fees, and application fees. However, it helps to inquire with your university's study abroad team early, do your research on your desired study destinations, and apply for as many scholarships as you can.

Another concern that I found among my peers when studying abroad was uncertainty and anxiety about homesickness, making friends, and creating a life in the host country. It can be super challenging to move alone to an unfamiliar place, but it is important to remember that it will be so rewarding in the long-run. Homesickness can be dealt with by bringing little pieces of home with you (photographs, a trinket from your bedroom, a gift that reminds you of family). You have to be willing to put yourself out there to make friends, but it is often easier than you think it is, and creating your own life in your host country can follow pretty soon after you get settled.

I'd say those are the two main concerns that myself and a lot of my peers had. There are ways to cope with them and lessen the anxiety, so it is important to ask these questions and be prepared!

I hope this helps,
