Choosing IB courses for next year

Hi I'm in Year 11 in the UK and my choices deadline for Sixth Form Subjects is very soon (!) and I was wondering if any IB students have advice for narrowing down your subject choices?

The problem is that I theoretically want to do three humanities (History, Politics, and Philosophy) but I can only do two at IB and I don't want to do A Levels because then I won't have space to do a language and English. I will definitely do History, so I have to choose between Politics and Philosophy.

I'm currently leaning towards Politics because I really like the sound of the global course and I've heard that Theory of Knowledge is basically Philosophy so I don't really feel the need to do Philosophy as a separate course. But equally, I find Philosophy super interesting and would potentially do it at university, so I don't want to get rid of that option. (I would do History and/or Politics at uni as well so it's a difficult choice)

So if any IB students who take Philosophy or Politics have any advice, that would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance💌
I don’t take either but thought some general advice might be helpful. Firstly, make sure you know exactly whats covered on each of the courses so you know if it interests you. Also, as you have some ideas about what interests you for uni, have a look at some entry requirements. I dont philosophy will broadly be required for that course but its worth checking what subjects are required of preferred for some degrees youre interested in- uniguide is great for this! Best of luck with your decision and GCSEs 🙂

Politics is like 40% coursework if you do it HL which might be a considering factor (less exam pressure)- I am predicted a 44 at IB but I honestly hate it- it is just too much work- do A-levels- you can do an EPQ on the subject you are missing or do 4 subjects and an AS- it will make your life easier which will let you get better grades and extra curriculars

I agree with this 100%. Currently year 2 IB student and it is way too much, if you want to study in the UK, stick to A-levels for the sake of your sanity.
IB predicted 42 with 766 in my HLs: Chemistry, Biology and English Literature

my school requires tok to graduate so I take it. i personally hate the class but it is easy to get high grades in and all the assessments are written responses.
