~ Applying for MPharm ~

Hi everyone!

I'm currently in year 13 and will soon be applying for university. I have decided to study pharmacy, and my chosen universities are Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Bath, and King's College. My predictions are A*, A, B. My only concern, however, is that most medicine and dentistry students who applied in September chose pharmacy as their non-medicine course for their fifth uni. I'm worried that if I submit my application in January all the spaces will be filled up.

Unis make far more offers than places available - because they know that not everyone will choose that Uni as their Firm choice, not every Firmed applicant will get their grades in August, and some will defer, not enrol, drop out etc. They take all of this into account when deciding how many offers to make for each course - and its continually adjusted during the admissions' cycle. This is why they make offers gradually - and make offers right up to their deadline date in May, Unis do not 'run out of offers' - everyone applying before the Jan deadline really does get equal consideration.

Med and Dent applicants mostly use Biosciences as their 5th choice, not Pharmacy, and Uni do not favour them in the process - as above, they get considered alongside all those who apply right up to the Jan deadline.
