in yr 13 - am i cooked?

hi everyone, does anyone have any tips for yr 13? i'm 3 months in and i genuinely don't know what to do any more. in my most recent mocks i got a B in chemistry, C in physics and an E in maths. on top of that i keep procrastinating. i've watched a lot of youtube vids for procrastination tips but they just don't work. i'm looking to apply to russel group universities in a month's time and i need an A*, A, B... what should i do? 😭 any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

I would suggest working on maths because that seems to be the worst subject right now... To be frank I don't think A*AB would be achievable in a months time, but that doesn't mean there isn't time for improvement still. Maybe try communicating with your teachers and see what advice they have to offer? My school has these subject clinics and they helped me a lot in terms of catching up in Y12 :biggrin:D Good luck!

Hey! First of all it's definitely possible for you to improve your grades between now and your exams. I definitely get the procrastination thing - if it's something like your phone that distracts you then I'd recommend getting an app like Forest or Flora to help with that. I find that the environment can help a lot too, find what works for you! Something that also helps me is saying to myself 'I'll just do 5 minutes' because if you can just get started then the chances are it'll be easier to continue past that.

This 'small steps' mentality also works for grades. Don't immediately worry about getting an A*AB, of course that can be a long-term goal, but work on getting them up by one or two grades first, a smaller goal for the meantime. Work through as many past papers as you can, hand them in to teachers for marking, and use the results to target your revision.

Keep working, you've absolutely got this! It's absolutely possible if you put your mind to it, and as a fellow procrastinator I know how hard that is. Make sure you have backup options for uni that you'd also be happy to go to, but apart from that just take care of yourself and do the best you can!

Hey!

It's definitely possible to pull your grades up so try not to worry! Procrastination is something a lot of people struggle with! Have you thought about studying in a group with your friends but in a silent place like a library? Having people around me helps but I have to do it in a silent place otherwise I'd just keep chatting away!

Past papers are a great way to revise as they quickly show you where your strengths and weaknesses are so you can focus on them!

I hope this advice helps and if you have any questions, please let me know!

this is literally me, I should be locking in rn for 3 hours yet im here on the student room. I literally got an E in history and my predicted is a C, so its not looking good. Im in the process of getting a tutor but ik they cant just chant some magic spell and get me to atleast a B.

The best advice is to lock in and get a tutor or something as soon as possible because we literally have 5 months left, otherwise we're really cooked.

A B in Chemistry is great and the Maths will just need a methodical approach. STEM A Levels are hard, but with a methodical approach to the modules in each spec you will be fine. There are loads of tutorials and A Levels.ai is great for keeping track of strengths and weaknesses for each subject.

Stop worrying. Not everyone knows what career they want. You could take a year out and retake A levels. Or look at apprenticeship degrees. Or a vocational career. Or Access course or foundation degree. Try this - clean your room, get rid of clutter. Change your furniture around in your bedroom/study area. Get up early - study one hour. Go for a walk. Study in chunks of one hour. Whatever you are revising talk it through with someone. If you can’t study at home, go to the library for one hour. Slowly build up to two hours. Study with like minded people in your class. Look at who you are hanging around with.
