best universities for pharmacy in the uk?

hi everyone! currently in year 13 and planning on applying for pharmacy in a month. i'm mainly targeting the russel groups and i was just wondering which universities are the best options for pharmacy?
i based my choices mainly off of the gphc exam passing rates for each uni, not league tables as they can be quite variable. my two favourites i visited (and top two performing last year) were birmingham and cardiff, both russel group and super nice x

Hey there 😁

I’d suggest narrowing down your choices and researching by thinking about what matters most to you in your student experience. For me, career support was key. I wanted to build a strong CV and develop valuable skills alongside my studies. That’s why I chose De Montfort University (DMU), as they offer placements, internship programmess, volunteering opportunities, global trips, networking events, training sessions, and much more. If something else is more important to you - maybe an exciting nightlife - research which city or university best matches your priorities. This will definitely help you find the right fit!

Once you've narrowed down your choices, be sure to attend the Open Days. These events are incredibly valuable! You’ll have the chance to talk to current students, attend sample lectures, explore the campus and facilities, and, most importantly, get a real feel for whether the university is the right fit for you.

I’d highly recommend exploring the MPharm programme at De Montfort University (DMU). Friends of mine have praised its strong connections with the health sector and excellent facilities, and from my own experience, DMU provides incredible professional support. Although I haven’t graduated yet, I already have an impressive CV and feel fully prepared to enter the job market.

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

Hi @user12578 !

My name is Dom and I'm a 4th year Pharmacy student at the University of Nottingham!

When it comes to picking universities, there is more to it than being the best at a subject. Some things that might be good to consider is:

distance from home

campus or city university

Support networks

Surrounding areas (is the city nice? Is greenery important to you? Do you want to go to a big city or small city?)

Transport links (some smaller universities might not have good public transport links to nearby cities)

Here at the University of Nottingham we pride ourselves on being one of the top 10 MPharm courses in the UK. We are a campus university with big green spaces, such as the Downs (where people hangout in the summer), we have Highfields lake on campus (which you can boat on). Plenty of on-campus (catered) and off campus (self-catered) student halls. We have incredible transport links to the city via trams, trains and buses. The city is not massive and is easy to find your way around (even I can do it and I get lost always!), but is big enough that I'm still finding new things to do even in my 4th year!

Absolutely!

The course is tough but also so rewarding. Currently in year 4 I am running a simulated pharmacy, which is pretty tricky but I am learning so much. The staff are all so supportive and there are lots of chances to ask questions and clarify things at the end of lectures or even over email. I will be going on placement next semester, in either a hospital, community pharmacy or a GP surgery, and I am looking forward to that very much.

Is there anything else you would like to know??

Dom 🙂
