How long to revise?

I'm in year 11 at the moment so my gcses are going to start in about 6 months! Obviously I'll have to be doing a lot more revision once I get closer to the exams, but how how much time should I spend revising each weekday/weekend at the moment?

It's quality not quantity - I generally did roughly 1.5-2 hours on school days and about 2-2.5 hours on weekends if I was pushing it, but make sure you don't burn yourself out <3

Thank you!! I'm definitely trying not to burn myself out, but it's hard to work out what's the right amount because I know some people who aren't really revising yet at all and them some people who are doing lots more than me. I've been doing about 1 or 2 hours after school, but it depends, and some days I'll do even less. And on weekends, I'm aiming for 2+ hours a day. I've not got a schedule to stick to or anything though so it really varies. (I tried making a weekly schedule which showed when to revise each subject, but it didnt work well for me because my weeks can vary a lot.) Thank you though - I think you've reassured me that I'm doing about the right amount 💕

Hi there! Great that you're thinking about revision planning 6 months ahead of your GCSEs. Here's a balanced approach I'd recommend:
Current Stage (6 months before):

Weekdays: 1-1.5 hours after school

Weekends: 2-3 hours total (split into manageable chunks)

Key tips:

Quality over quantity - focused revision is better than long unfocused sessions

2. Break it down - 25-30 minute sessions with 5-minute breaks

Mix subjects - don't spend too long on one subject

Use active revision - practice questions, flashcards, teaching others

Gradually increase - add 30 minutes every month as exams get closer

3 months before:

Weekdays: 2-2.5 hours

Weekends: 3-4 hours

Final month:

Weekdays: 3-4 hours

Weekends: 4-5 hours (with proper breaks)

Remember:

Keep a healthy balance with other activities

Get enough sleep

Take proper breaks

Exercise regularly

Don't forget social time

The key is consistency rather than cramming. Start building good habits now, and you'll be well-prepared when the exams arrive!

Thank you!! Is that 2-3 hours between both days of the weekend or 2-3 hours each?

Hi!! I've just written down how much I might try to do. Ive used your timings as a guide. Fo you think this is good?

Also, how much revision do you recommend doing during the exams. Obviously it's important to prepare for your next exam but you need some rest too!!
