Veterinary medicine interview

Hello! I've been invited to interview by Edinburgh and expect to be invited by Liverpool and Nottingham vet schools. does anyone have any tips for how to ace your interviews? I know each university has their own way of doing their interviews, should my tactic be different for each method/ university?

Yes, it's online.

From their website:

"Interview Assessment
You will be ranked based on your overall score of the online assessments and the highest ranked will be invited to attend our Interview Assessment. The assessments will take place on Microsoft Teams and identify if you."

I heard back from Aberystwyth today, but I think they're putting out invites in batches so I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't heard anything 🙂

If you don’t mind me asking around when is your interview date? I also applied just wondering when they’re gonna start. Hoping I’ll find myself in one of the later batches…😶

Hello @florverc!

Generally speaking, it is worth reviewing all the documents that you submitted as part of your application as some questions may be related to them. Likewise, if you are being asked something and you do not know the answer, saying that you don't know is fine since they will not expect you to know everything. With these interviews, the idea is to see your thought process. In other words, if you something, always try to justify it 🙂.

You may check out this old thread from 2015 to help you preparing the interview(s): Vet. Med. Interview Prep.

I hope it helps,
Abian.

No idea, Nottingham does online interviews I'm not too sure about Liverpool. For Edinburgh the interviews are in person but if you can't make it/can't afford to go you should probably email the admissions team and explain your situation

Congrats!!! I also received mine, but after having done the Surrey interview over SAMMI, I’m pretty nervous. How are you preparing for the interview?

Read ALL of the code of conduct, every link, every bottom of page even if it’s talking about vet nurses ( especially if it’s talking about vet nurses as they give ethical scenarios in those paragraphs)
Then think about current issues, the role of investment funds in vet practices, the place of animals in intensive farming, the use of animals ( dogs) in war zones, breeding dogs as fashion accessories ( merle pigment, bulldogs etc) badger culling used to come up a lot but I think it’s probably been exhausted as a topic now, but making sure you have a few ideas and can defend them is never a bad idea. They are looking to see how you communicate and defend your ideas without being aggressive or condescending.Whether you are for or against something you have to be sensitive to the other point of view. Even if you are vehemently against badger culling you have to be able to appreciate the view of a farmer who has lost his herd because of a positive TB test. There will nearly always be a post in an MMI interview where you have to speak to a client about euthanasia, or unconscious bad treatment ( over feeding ) or to a colleague/ fellow student experiencing difficulties with the workload/ drugs/ alcohol. There are often basic maths questions, or questions on a set of data provided in the form of a graph or table. You might get an X ray or 2 and be asked to compare them and state the similarities and differences. NO, they won’t expect you to know all the different structures in all the main species groups, but yes they will expect you to know basic A level human anatomy and be able to work things out from there. If you make mistakes it doesn’t matter as long as you explain how you got to your answer. As I have said so many times, they are not looking for qualified vets but future vet students, so as long as you show a logical train of thought and you refer to what you can see and what and why you believe the things to be what you have stated them to be, you will do fine.
Best of luck.
