Ipad vs laptop

For Christmas this year I was thinking about asking my parents for either an Ipad or a laptop. I'm in S5 so I'd need to save up for one anyway for going to uni. Obviously they're both expensive so I probably wouldn't get it but I figured it'd be worth asking. If I plan on going into vet med, which would be better? I think if I went for the Ipad I'd get a keyboard and pen to go with it but idk anything about tech haha
Laptop if you don't already have a decent one.

I wouldn’t say an iPad is a substitute for a laptop for uni so I’d go with laptop if you don’t already have one ☺️

I would recommend you get one of those foldable laptops as you can use it for writing handwritten digital notes if you want whilst also having a fully functioning laptop. I currently use an iPad for the IB, I find it very useful and I enjoy taking notes on it but it has its limitations so I would not recommend it as a sole tool for uni

As above. I would get both. The ability to hand-write notes on a screen during lectures is a whole lot easier than trying to type. An Ipad + keyboard and stylus backed by a relatively cheap Windows laptop (or not so cheap Macbook) lets you do more a lot more easily. A second hand Windows 11 laptop which can run email, web browser and let you type in Office will not be huge money.

I have known students run with a conventional laptop and then plug a writing pad thing into it. No idea how well that works.
