BIMM Manchester/Brighton accommodation ???

Hello I’m in my final year at college and going through the whole uni process and looking at accommodation. When I went to the BIMM Brighton open day they kinda said that if you wanted to be in student halls it would be very expensive and very shut off (not many communal areas). However they said that housing would be a much better option. To my understanding it isn’t really typical to go into housing until second year and usually you go into halls at first. Could anyone clear this up for me that goes to a BIMM uni currently? Thankssssss xxxx
What are you hoping to study at BIMM?

As a profit making university they tend to be very small without any dedicated halls (and lots of commuter students living with their parents still). Its a very different university experience to what you'd get at a non-profit making university.

I’m studying music production and music business. I imagined it would be like that but I was just wondering from students what they did. It seems as if going into a shared house would be the best option ?

It might be worth looking into private halls - they can be a better option for first year if you don't know anyone else in the area to do a house share with. They're not cheap usually and the terms of the rental agreement can be tricky but it's definitely worth looking into as an option. After a year in the city and studying on the course then you have time to get to know people and a better idea of who you might want to live with in later years in a student house.

The admission advisor did say that with student houses there is an option to be placed with random people or go to sessions where you meet people to share housing with. do u think this would be a good option?

I'd say they're pushing that option because it distracts from their lack of housing. Research all your possible housing options

Okay thank you so much that’s very helpful. I will definitely look into private renting and such. I would just like for a shared space so that I can meet people.

private halls will normally put you into a shared flat with 5-9 other people sharing a kitchen and living area. There will also normally also be common areas available too.
The benefit in a private hall is that if you aren't getting on well with your flatmates then you can always ask to switch to a different flat with other people. If you're in a student house with a shared contract then that isn't an option

Spotahome and Amber but you have to apply in early spring and pay a deposit straight away as they go quickly.
Be sure that's the university you wanna go to because if you change your mind you might not get your deposit back from Amber, I'm not sure about Spotahome.
If you want to practice music and home, I would recommend Amber because it depends on who you live with in the house share if you go for Spotahome.

Good luck!
