Financial information

Hello,
I am currently applying for universities for 2025 entry, and I want to ask about the amount of maintenance loan I would be eligible for.
I would like to go to university in London, however if I go there I will no longer be financially supported or contacted by my parents at all.
I am not currently estranged, but I will be once I leave for university.
I would need 365 day accommodation, as going back to live with my parents would not be an option.
With the maintenance loan calculated from my parent's income, I would not be able to even afford the accommodation costs for the year, nevermind the basic living costs, although I receive no financial aid or contact with my parents.

I want to know what support I am eligible for, since strictly speaking I am not eligible for the estrangement fund, despite being in a very similar situation.

Hi there,

So currently you are not estranged from your parents but you will be when you start studying? You plan to start a course in September 2025 in London? Do you know the name of your course, what university will you attend and the duration of your course? Have you started an undergraduate course before?

I want to study a Biological sciences degree at UCL. I have not started an undergraduate degree before, this is a 3 year course.

Hi sorry I thought it was rhetorical , i will be estranged as in i won't be in contact or receive financial support from them.

So why would you not be in contact with them when you leave to study? How old will you be on the 1st day of the academic year?

I wrote the whole story on another post , but I am using university as a chance to run away from my abusive household , and i plan to cut all contact with them. I will be 18

Hi there,

The applications for 2024/25 are not open yet but should be open in February/March time next year. You will need to submit an application on your online account. Once your application is submitted you will also need to complete an estrangement form and this will also need to be completed by a 3rd party who has good standing in the community to confirm you are estranged. If you are attending University College London this would be a university that gets the London Rate for the Maintenance Loan if you are living in your own accommodation.

hi yes but would i still be eligible for and get the fund if it hasnt been a year of estrangement?
