Hi, I’m a year 12 who wants to apply for french and arabic at cambridge. I’m just abit confused as to how the application process works, as I know that you can’t apply for French and Arabic through the modern and medieval course at cambridge, but only through the AMES. Would this mean that I have to make my personal statement more focused on the Arabic side of the course, or can I do more French, or would it be better to do it 50/50.
Any insights from any current French and arabic undergrads or offer holders would be great, thanks!

Hi current Undergrad at Cambridge studying Arabic and MML (not French but same situation). In general every personal statement in unique and everyone I have spoken to about the application process within AMES, had vastly different experiences. As long as you demonstrate an interest in both and show what you have done to develop this interest (I.e talks, reading, work at school, maybe link your other A levels in), you will have your own statement. Personally my statement had a paragraph dedicated solely to Arabic because I was aware that it was less obvious why I wanted to study that than MML but everyone does it differently!

Hi, current Year 13 applying to Cambridge for AMES (Arabic Studies), just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on applying. I've sent my Personal Statement off, but I still have my MyCapp to come along with an interview (fingers crossed). Any advice would be wonderful. If anyone else is in the same boat I'd love to get in contact because I swear nobody I know goes for anything this niche!!
