how well do these a level options go together?

Maths, Psychology and history?
Does anyone think I am making a big mistake by picking these options?

What do you intend to do after Year 13 - if Uni, do you have any ideas about a degree subject area?

It really depends on you as an individual.
Are these subjects you enjoy?
Do you excel in these subjects?
Do these subjects all you to do what you want in the future?

Hi @immyreeves

I think the questions above are great to consider.

Personally I choose three A-level that didn't necessarily go together as I had no career path in mind so just thought it would be best to go for what I enjoyed and found interesting.
They where as follows:
English Combined
Textiles
Government and Politics

Now I am studying Fashion Promotion and Communication at Kingston University. A course I didn't even know existed when I started A-levels.

I hope this helps and is reassuring

i have been getting 8s and 9s in history and maths, i have not yet done psychology. I am wondering if this combination will be too overwhelming.

I mean it isn't really about how well they go together, as many others in this thread have mentioned it really is about whether you enjoy the subject, do you think they would be helpful for what you plan to do after A levels. Are you likely to get the best grades you could get by taking those subjects? The reason we get a free choice for A levels is to allow odd combinations and a mix and match because not everyone is fully STEM focused or entirely humanities strong etc.

Hi Immy,

Like you, I did an odd combination of Psychology, Chemistry and French (?!?!) - personally, I would say that if you already have your eye on a few uni courses or subjects then double check your entry requirements as some courses do require certain subjects (e.g. a sciencey subject - here you will have your psych and maths). However if you don't yet know, that is fine - just go with what you enjoy and what you are good at.

I would say what you are thinking about is actually a really good combo - maths is very numerical, history is very analytical, and psychology (which I can assure you absolutely can learn from scratch at A Level) is somewhere in between. So by picking these subjects you are practising a broad range of different academic skills which many unis will value.

For example, for Psychology here at Bath we look for a range of subjects in our students - we like to see a sciencey subject as well as a more analytical subject such as history as the degree requires both sound mathematical and writing skills. So in short, if you enjoy those subjects then in my opinion they will be fine for you.

Best of luck!
