Worth applying or not?

Hi guys, I really am fond of the University of Sheffield and their law program. I have AAB as my predicted grades, and it requires AAA. I plan to apply to Cardiff and 3 safe options, but I was wondering is it too far fetched to apply to Sheffield? I am well aware its not just grades they will look at, and personal statement has been checked and it seems pretty solid. Im just afraid that I will be wasting my options but like I want go Sheffield at the same time, advice?

It's just one of five options. Why not give it a punt? No is certain if you don't apply. If you do apply, Sheffield might say no, but it might say yes. Good luck!

Thank you!!!
I would apply 100%.

I don’t really see this as a ‘punt’ either - I think it’s more likely than not that you’ll receive an offer from Sheffield

I would strongly recommend NOT applying to 3 ‘safe’ unis. These unis will only be in clearing come results day so they are a waste of an application.

I would pick three/four RG unis that require AAA and one/two that require A*AA

Do you have any recommendations that aren’t like London or Scotland? I just want a good uni possibly with 3 As, I believe three RGS might be aiming too high, I just want to be cautious. Thank you so much for responding you have boosted my confidence 😊

Hi Dhania,
You should definitely apply and stand a very good chance of an offer. I also agree with LawStudent456 said that applying to safe options isn't really worth it. Unis such as Lancaster, Leicester, and UEA have all been in clearing for law the past three years. I'd advise you maybe have one at that level (I recommend Leicester). And four at AAA level. Options you could look at as well as Sheffield could be, York, Leeds, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton, Liverpool.
Good luck with your application!

Hello! @dhania_s 🙂
Firstly, I just wanted to say it's great you're thinking of applying to law and I appreciate picking universities to apply to can be a tricky decision!

Have you considered UEA? It's in the city of Norwich so it's not too far from London (just under 2 hours by train) yet it still offers a different scenery to London (you can explore the beaches, the broads, the countryside and city life!)

The UEA Law school is well respected and the course has been ranked in the top 20 in the UK! The grade requirements are AAB.
Have a look at the course here. Is there a particular aspect of law you really want to explore in your degree?

I'd also recommend taking into account whether you'd prefer a city university or a campus university. To do this, I'd highly recommend visiting open days because they give you a chance to see the university for yourself but also the chance to speak to current students and staff about your course, any sports clubs/societies you may want to join etc...

I hope this helps! If you would like any more information about UEA or have any questions I'm more than happy to help! 🙂
Good luck with your application!!

Just to add Southampton Law was in clearing last year - we were there on the July open day and while loved the law faculty decided it was a good clearing choice if needed.

Hi lovely,

Amy from Cardiff Uni here!

Although I don't study Law, I can definitely say that I have loved my time in Cardiff- so much so that I have stayed here to pursue a MSc, after my 4 year-long BSc. If you would like to discuss what studying Law here is like, with a current Law student at Cardiff Uni, then you can message them through this link here .

If you have any questions what what life is like in Cardiff, please do let us know 🥰
