What Should I do? Messages Help.

I have the phone number and am connected with some acquaintances from Sixth Form who I was on good terms with and we chat here and there, usually just as a catch up.

Even though we aren’t close, it’s very nostalgic for me because it brings back memories of my school years.

I’m going to get a new phone soon. But how can I get them to add my new phone number for messages/as a contact?

It’s complicated as the only reason we still have messages is as a relic of school when we added each other and we obviously wouldn’t just randomly add each other now since we haven’t spoken since so they might think it’s weird to have the phone number of someone they will never see.

But I just want to continue to send them “Happy Birthday” messages or receive it from them and occasionally send messages.

Surely you'd be able to transfer your number to your new SIM card?

Why change your phone number?

You simply ask a new service provider to 'port' your number to them when you change your service provider. That way, your phone number never changes throughout your lifetime.

If not changing your service provider, ask them or the provider or manufacturer of your phone, if you can't find a settings on it, to transfer all your contact details to your phone SIM card, and just use that SIM card on your new phone.

However, the best thing to do is to ask how to transfer all your contacts to a Google account that you have or create, so that if you lose your SIM card or phone, or if it goes faulty, all your contacts are held by Google. By signing into your Google email account, even if you never use that email, all your contacts will appear on your new phone.

For example, Samsung and Apple are happy to help you free charge - just call them or your equivalent phone provider.
