Student loans

We are British nationals living and working abroad, but we want our children to attend a university in the UK. Is there a way for them to qualify for a student loan without needing to live in the UK for three years before starting their course? We all hold UK passports.

Hi there,

Can you confirm where you have been living? Have the students been in the UK at all? Was the time outside the UK been temporary?

Thanks,
Claire

We live in China, and the kids are in an American International School. They have lived in the UK for a short time about 2 years,

Hi Qingdao,

If your children are UK nationals and do not have 3 years' residency in the UK you would need to show that your absence was temporary and you maintained links to the UK with evidence such as temporary work contacts and temporary visas.

Thanks,
Calum
