"New to the UK at 16 & Ready to Level Up: Need Advice on Education Pathways!"

Hi everyone!

I’m a 16-year-old Nigerian 🇳🇬 who recently moved to the UK. I’m currently in college studying IT along with Functional Skills Entry Level 3 in both Math and English, but I don’t have other formal qualifications yet. I have a few questions and would love any advice:

1. How can I move up levels in my courses? I’d like to progress more quickly if possible, so any tips on what I should focus on would be helpful.

2. How do I go about earning my GCSEs? Since I’m still getting used to the education system here, I’m unsure where to start and what my options are.

3. Any other suggestions or advice? If you have any ideas on how I can make the most of my education here, I’d love to hear them!

Thank you so much for your help!

progress how? Qualification type (Level 1, 2 etc) or grades? If grades, then just google revision resources. If qualification type, then GCSEs at a 4 or above is Level 2, A Level is 3, uni is 5/6/7. Start with GCSE then go to A Levels etc

GCSEs. Normally start in Year 10 (15 by Sept 1st) apart from science (start year early for my skl) and geo/hist (term before) and study for 2 years until May June of Y11. There are different exam boards, that are can be easier than others. Main ones are AQA, Edexcel and OCR. Personally i prefer AQA and Edexcel since they had more multiple choice and easy-mark questions, but it meant that grade boundaries were higher.
compulsory GCSEs are Maths and English language, but you may want to take more (I took maths, eng lang, eng lit, computing, bio, chem, phys (separate science), geo and rs). do what you like
after that is a levels (choose 3-4 of subjects u enjoy AND are good at)
