First year Uni grading brighton univeristy

Y'all I was going on a smooth sail and then boomed messed up, already submitted two graded works in a different module and got great feedback and then got cocky with the third one and ended up going over the deadline - panicking and then submitting the most half slop thing known to mankind. Completely my fault gang, shouldn't have panicked and instead complete it to a reasonable expectation because either way its capped at 40% because of the missed deadline might as well try get 40% LOL but lesson learnt for real.

Anyways that half slop is equal to 40% of that modules grade with the second essay equalling to 60% - I'm just trying to get a picture here but would I be allowed onto second year if this modules grade isn't the best - NOT trying to give myself an excuse to relax and put not effort into the second essay but it would be a real shame if my other two modules were passes whilst this one isn't. Not trying to be kept a year behind since student finance only covers 4 years.

On another module discussion board it was stated that only 40% was needed to pass the entire module - would this hold true for all my modules I have first year? Anyways saw something about people having resit work in summer and re-enrolling once they get their results for that, what's all that about, is it for those who failed a module but will be moving onto the next year if the resit hits the grade target? Honestly feel like nothing has been explained to me and I've been thrown into the deep end.

Check your degree and module regulations rather than (half sloppily?) rely on incomplete information.

But yes, you probably will be fine with getting 40+ overall in each module.

been turning every stone I can to find information and yet all I'm getting is we'll be told about it closer to the end of the year, splendid and yeah 'half slop' is absolutely confusing wording on my part haha but anyways thank you for the reply, it's only the start so I'm sure I'm overcomplicating the matter!

This is apparently 140 pages of academic regulations:

No idea whether it's any use to you...

Late reply, but generally at The University of Brighton your first year doesn't go towards your final degree classification. Secondly, a pass (third class mark) at UoB is usually the minimum of a 40/100. If this holds true for your course, as long as you got 40/100 or above in all of your modules then you'll be allowed to progress to the second and third years of study without summer retakes.

Another thing to remember for your future assignments, unless you have a course leader approved extension or an extension that's automatically applied to all your assignments because you have a disability, long-term illness that interferes with your ability to study etc., every piece of work you submit beyond the normal deadline will be capped at 40% (a lower third class). I think at Brighton usually the second year of study goes towards 25-30% of your degree's grade average, and the final year is about 70-75%. So make sure you get stuff in on time if you want the best degree mark you can get 🙂

I hope that this helped.
