Post-Uni Accomodation

I'm currently in supported accomodation due to being kicked out by my family and am applying for unis for 2025.

I've been told by a few people that after being in supported accomodation and having applied to be housed through the council, if I go to uni and end up in student accomodation, it will be impossible or near-impossible to get a place on the council after as I would've given up my place on the list to go into student accomodation. and that therefore my only option is to stay local to my current housing accomldation within commute distance which obviously vastly limits my uni choices. is this true?
