teaching myself as level chemistry

throughout as level i was stuck on C/D’s but when i did a resit in year 13 i managed to get a B. however due to personal issues ive dropped out of year 13 to restart in september. is it possible to reteach myself the entire AS level spec so when i go back to college in september I could get my predicted grade up to an A? would it be easy or hard too?

It can be done, but it depends a lot on how well you are able to maintain a sensible work-life balance and if you are able to use your resources correctly.
Which exam board are you with?

Let’s start by directing you to some especially useful resources: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7528254#post99922295

When you say you plan on being consistent with chemistry, how long per day are you thinking of studying and what sorts of methods? My recommendation would be to spend somewhere between 4 and 6 hours per week on chemistry alone, with the study time split into bursts of about 45 minutes (with 15 - 20 minute breaks between).

You will also need to use past exam questions routinely and so it might be wise to follow specification order, teach yourself a topic in one or two of the aforementioned 45 minute periods with the resources linked and then spend another 45 minute period doing questions on said topic and then another one marking said questions and identifying weak points to cover in your revision.

What about ChemGuide? A website set up by a teacher in Truro and a huge help to me getting ready for my mature student application for 2025 entry.

There’s a companion calculations book. Excellent resource.

ChemGuide is good, but seems to mostly be aimed at CIE and is a little outdated. For OCR, I’d personally say there are better, but if it works for you then use it by all means.
