Brighton or Portsmouth Pharmacy

I am applying for pharmacy and am looking to switch cardiff for a safer option. I am predicted bbb so that is the main reason and that doesnt seem to be enough to get a contextual offer. The 2 i am looking to choose between are portsmouth and brighton. Just wanted to know which one is better city wise, course wise, and in general.

Hi @yssya

Thanks for your interest in the University of Brighton 😄

The Pharmacy MPharm course we offer is very popular! It's ranked 3rd in the UK overall and 5th in the UK for career prospects Guardian University Guide 2025 and we're UKs top 20% for graduate earnings in pharmacy, three years after graduating Longitudinal Education Outcomes 2022.

Our course is accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council and students have access to specialist facilities including SimMan 3G patient simulators, image analysis suite, medicine dispensary and genomics/proteomics facility. You can take a virtual tour of our clinical simulation suite on the course page.

Our students have 12 weeks of clinical placements across the programme. Placement providers include community pharmacies, GP surgeries, Mental Health Trusts, and Secondary and Tertiary care sectors.

We also stay in touch after you’ve graduated from the MPharm and provide help in the form of mock exam and online support around pharmaceutical calculations. The mock exam is held at the university six weeks before the actual exam so that you can assess your learning, identify gaps in your knowledge and gain confidence. It consists of two papers written in the style of the new GPhC exam.

In regards to Brighton as a city, it's a really inclusive and fun place to be! 😊 There are so many restaurants you'll never run out of food options (which I love!) and if you like nightlife, there are lots of bars and clubs. We're also situation on the South Downs National Park so we're surrounded by nature, plus we have the beach, so there's somewhere to go and enjoy nature all year round 🤩 There's a great student community and it's super easy to get around on buses and trains and walking (we have financial help for travel).

You could receive support worth £1,250 to put towards the cost of university halls, if you'll be staying in our halls of residence in your first year of study. You may also be eligible for University of Brighton bursaries and other support in subsequent years of study. you can check out our Brighton Boost financial help here.

Overall, 93% of students recommend their Brighton experience (Unicompare)

I hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have any questions 😊
