Southampton and cardiff law offers

Hi, I got offers for Law llb from these 2 unis (AAA required) and i have a few questions

1. Is there a high chance that unis, these ones especially, still take u in on results day if u get a grade below the offer?

2. Which uni would be better for law in ur opinion/experience and why? I'm having a hard time choosing between them.

Thanks!

Both had clearing places in 2024 so you would be accepted with one grade off.

Both are prestigious and I suggest you take a look on the modules to see which interests you more.

Hiya!

For your first question, its really hard to say. Clearing places depend on competitiveness and how many spaces has gotten filled - sometimes the clearing grades get higher, sometimes it stays the same, sometimes it gets lower. That's probably not a very helpful answer - sorry about that!

Cardiff is a brilliant uni for law. The course has connections with a lot of organisations in the industry, including the Welsh Government, city law firms, courts, and advice centres. The university also has a Pro Bono Unit, where you can work experience to boost your career prospects.

I totally get the struggle with struggling to choose between courses - I found that as well with my uni choices. Sometimes the fact is that the courses are as good as each other! If you're still struggling to choose, I recommend looking at other aspects of the universities (eg., student accom, student life, societies, career prospects) to help you choose

Good unis, Southampton has a data privacy module that isn't offered in most unis and Cardiff has some employment skill modules which are pretty good. I'm not sure if either is heavily recruited but they're both RG unis so you would not be at any disadvantage. Cardiff is also a nice city to live in(cheap) but Southampton is good too.

Do you need a 6 in English language to study law?
Hi @Alena112

In answer to your first question, it is hard to say as it depends on availability.

I would highly recommend you attend an open day/offer holder day if you have not visited the university already as the best way to decide what place is right for you is to visit the university. It would give you the opportunity to talk to a current law student, see the campus, the accommodation, the city as well as what the Student Union is like. We have our last open day on Wednesday 27th November. There will be multiple offer holder days taking place across the early part of 2025.

With regards to the course, there are wide variety of modules on offer which allow you to specialize in the areas of law you are most interested in. In final year, nearly all modules are optional so you can tailor the degree. You can find out more here. You can also study some modules from other subjects.

Moreover, there are lots of opportunities outside of the degree that are related to Law that you can get involved in. For example, there are a variety of societies such as the Laws Society and the Mooting Society. You can take part in a range of competitions. There's also the opportunity to do Pro-Bono work for the local community.

The Careers Department is also useful. They have had a week dedicated to Law where people who work in the law profession come in and give talks. They also have had Law Alumni Panel as well as a Law Careers Fair. The Careers Department also provides alot of support with applications. For example, with writing CVs, cover letters, interview tips, how to find graduate jobs etc.

Best Wishes,
