Uni of Strathclyde, can I get into the course I want?

Hi! I have applied for English and journalism at Strathclyde and I achieved a B for higher English, C for higher math, C for higher French.
I’m currently doing advanced English, higher media, higher biology and higher modies.
Do I have any chance of getting in?
Please let me know I am stressing!!

Hiya @Watermelon280 🙂 The course you're applying for is an area that's really competitive. The standard entry requirements by the end of your second sitting would be AAAAB - so another 4 As would be required this year if the department was making a conditional offer, and that's a big ask. I can't say for certain what the likelihood of an offer would be, but is really competitive and many applicants will have five highers from S5 so it's important to be aware of that.

If you are eligible for an offer under the widening access criteria then you'd be working towards the minimum of AABBB overall. You can check the criteria for that on our webpages here: Contextual admissions | University of Strathclyde.

Even if we're not able to make you an offer of study for 2025 entry, you may be able to take a year and do a qualification such as a HNC. We'd consider you for the course if you studied a HNC in Social Sciences, for example. Lots of students will consider the college route and apply while they're there 📚️

Drop me a message if you've any other questions!

Hello! I don't think we'd be able to consider you for the MPharm unfortunately. Normally HNC/HNDs aren't considered on their own for this course, and we'd therefore look for relevant study at school alongside if you're applying in the next couple of years. Higher Chemistry is one of the subjects we'd be looking for and as you don't have this I don't think we'd be able to make an offer I'm afraid.
