Student finance processing time

Hello, I’ve recently applied for student finance, due to some issues my application was approved and processed very late , however I was surprised when I saw that I got the minimum amount of maintenance loan even though I am entitled to more, my mum got an email telling her to send some evidence of her income , she uploaded the evidence on her account, my account and also sent it by post, I haven’t received any updates from student finance in weeks , and I am worried they won’t process my application before the 31st of December, this would make me lose a grant that my university is offering to disadvantaged students. Any ideas as to why student finance is taking so long to process all the evidence?

HI there,

Can you please tell us what this evidence is, and on what date you uploaded it?

Thanks, Graeme

They asked my mum to send her P60 as proof of her income, I’ve sent it on the 29th on November and I didn’t hear back from them since

Thank you. Was this the 29th of October? Evidence is taking an estimated 23 working days to process at the moment from when we receive it. This is an estimated timescale based on current workflows. You can track your application with our processing timescale via here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/sfe-current-application-timescales or via your account here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a4p4IP1lzo

Yes it was the 29th of October I uploaded the document on my account and I called them to confirm they got it , my mum also sent the evidence to the office by post. After the evidence is reviewed how long would it take to see a change in my maintenance loan and will my university be contacted for the grant? Thank you

Once the evidence is processed it would then take 1-3 working days to backdate any monies owed to you. Do you mean the bursary from the university? Thanks, Jason

Yes, I was told by my university that student finance has to contact them first

Thank you. Once this is updated they should then be able to assess you for any bursary you're eligible for. Thanks, Jason

I have another question, my mum received an email from student finance stating that her P60 shows that she receives additional income, this income comes from universal credit how can we prove that the additional income is from universal credit and therefore non taxable?

Hi there,

The P60 wouldn't be for universal credit as that's non taxable. If she doesn't know what income we're referring to she would need to contact her local tax office to find out why she is on this tax code that suggests other wise.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there,

Yes, feel free to upload this as soon as you can. It may be worth asking your Mum to include a cover letter just clarifying that this is her only taxable income.

Thanks, Graeme
