Year 12 struggling in A-Level Chemistry

Hi,
I swapped to A-Level Chemistry a month ago, meaning I had to catch up three weeks worth of content — which I did — however, I'm not doing as well as my peers.
I get half/less than half on all my tests, and since I know how high OCR grade boundaries are I'm really worried, my teachers say I'm working at a grade D level so far, however they did mention that so far the tests have been largely maths based which may be why I'm struggling in this subject
My two biggest weaknesses right now are the amount of substance unit, as I seem to get answers frequently wrong and don't know where I went wrong. And word answers, for some reason I can never phrase like how the markscheme wants it, leading me to lose loads of marks where had I phrased it slightly differently I would've got the mark. If anyone has any advice on how to do better in this subject I'd greatly appreciate it!

hey, don't panic. theres still literally 2 years before exams, and you have loads of time to sort things out. my advice would be to keep doing practice papers, on topics that you are covering currently/have already covered. make sure you mark them as well. that'll help you get used to what the mark scheme wants , in terms of phrasing and amount required. a good place to find them is PMT, where they're sorted by topic. For maths questions, the same applies. Talk to your teachers and any friends taking/have taken , and ask them how you can improve.
good luck đź’Ş
