Hi! Glad you’re considering Bath for pharmacy 😊 I’m in my fourth year of the course so hopefully I can offer you some insight.

Overall, I would say my experience here has been great. One of the benefits of studying here is the smaller course size which allows us to be treated very much as an individual. The support we are offered by lecturers, teaching directors and personal tutors is excellent. I also like the way the course has been organised with modules based on each body system, as this helps to understand the relevance of each topic in practice.

Another major bonus is the placements offered here. We have really great connections with healthcare organisations throughout the south west, as one of the few pharmacy schools in this region. The placements are integrated throughout the degree to support our learning and prepare us for future practice. We also have the opportunity to carry out our master’s dissertation abroad, which I am currently doing in Helsinki, Finland, so that’s given me some really unique experiences.

I also appreciate being a campus-based university as it helps to feel more connected as a community, especially in first year when most students live in halls on campus. All the main facilities are close together too, which makes it really easy to get around.

The city is also beautiful - it’s full of history, has lots of great cafés, shops, and green spaces, and it’s a safe place to live. Overall, it’s a great setting in which to carry out your degree. Plus, it’s easy to get to other major cities like Bristol or London for a day out.

All that being said, pharmacy is a very demanding course, I assume regardless of where you study it. Personally, I don’t mind as I find the content really interesting but you definitely have to manage your time well and occasionally sacrifice social plans. But if you’re prepared to commit to it, I think you will find it rewarding too.

If you’ve got any more questions, feel free to ask 😊

Hi, I'm also applying to Bath for MPharm and my insurance is Bath at Plymouth campus with a foundation year. Can I ask what student support is like at Bath and how extenuating circumstances are considered in the application process, I have had a look at the website but the examples provided aren't relevant. Does bath have equal consideration for all applicants based on when individual students apply? When do interviews begin?
Whilst I'm very keen on Bath University, I'm a bit concerned regarding 'fitting in at University' as an ethnic minority, what is the diversity like there and while it might be low, is the student community generally open?
I apologise if these seem like jarring questions, I hope to hear back soon!

Hello there,

Apologies for the late reply! Not at all, these are all really good questions on a lot of prospective students' minds, so thanks for raising them 🙂

1.

The best people to ask about your extenuating circumstances is the admissions team ([email protected]) - if you tell them what your situation is and fill out the mitigating circumstances form then they can give you more advice on your particular situation.

2.

As long as you apply before the equal consideration deadline, when you send in your application will have no impact on the likelihood of you getting an offer. Unis do NOT work on a first come first come basis and so please don't worry about this.

3.

Pharmacy interviews - there will be some slots before Christmas but then they will restart after the 06th January when everyone gets back after the new year.

4.

It is totally normal to be concerned about fitting regardless of your ethnic background, but please be assured that when you come to uni, everyone will be in the same boat as you and will be keen to get to know people. We are aware that there is a stereotype that Bath as a city is not as diverse as other cities, but the uni certainly isn't like this. Around a third of our students are international and/or from an ethnic minority and so the university itself is very diverse. It is an open and welcome community, and has over 150 societies to join including ones for different cultural groups so you can get to know people with similar backgrounds to yourself.

I hope that helps a little, if you think of anything else please let us know! Best of luck and best wishes 🙂

Hi there!

Just to let you know that I’m a first-year student at the Plymouth campus for the Bath MPharm as part of the very first cohort here. Although I’m not doing the foundation year, I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have which are specific to the Bath MPharm in Plymouth and the course. In terms of fitting in, I’m currently a part of a small cohort, there’s only 26 of us, and the student community is amazing. I’m Filipino and I’ve never felt out of place and the university as a whole is quite diverse.

If you have any questions then let me know!

Hiya! Thank you so much for your response, I'm glad to hear your enjoying it and it's going well, I think that's amazing that the cohort is so small since there would be a lot more individual support. Can I ask what your honest opinion is of the Plymouth campus i.e like and dislike? Also, what was the interview process like after applying and whether you have any advice regarding it. Best of luck with your studies!

Hi!

Yeah, I've got to say that I'm really enjoying it - the support from staff is honestly amazing and it's nice how everybody knows each other (lecturers and students alike).

If you do get a chance, I would highly recommend signing up for an open day if you can however I think they might have an offer holder day before the next open day (don't quote me on that!). However, in my honest opinion, I do quite like the campus, the facilities in the Pharmacy suite are brand new - they finished building them about four months ago - and the 24-hour library is a good place on campus to get some work done. In addition, there's a lot of work being done at the moment to modernise the buildings at the Uni because of a new grant. Hopefully, if you come to join us next year, the new green space will be finished by then. I can't say that I have any massive dislikes towards the campus, I would say it's not quite as picturesque as Bath's campus as a whole, however the Pharmacy suite facilities definitely beat Bath's as they're so new.

In terms of the interview process, I would say have a look at NHS values, possibly even the GPhC standards however I would say as long as you're confident in your reasons to want to do Pharmacy then you'll be fine. You are allowed to be nervous for the interview though! Most people are and it's only natural, interviewers are people too and they will genuinely understand.

There's some situational judgement tests and calculation tests however they key outcome from them is to see how you think when faced with a problem. Personally, they do tend to be quite common sense based judgements and the calculation tests are non-calculator, however I believe you're allowed to use some paper to write down your workings, I think the hardest calculations you might need to do only involve a bit of multiplication and addition and even then you'll be given nice numbers.

If you have any more questions, feel free to drop another message! If not, then all the very best on your application and all of your interviews!
