Winchester college

Hi everyone!
I’m currently in year 10 and I’m looking at different options for sixth form, and one of the places I’m looking is Winchester college since they started letting girls in. I’m currently at an all girls school and I’m very aware that it would be a big change to move to a school where the student body is predominantly boys- and I was wondering if anybody had any experience of the school, especially any girls who have been (or know girls who have been) or just anyone who has attended the school, especially since they started admitting girls.
I’m hoping to study English, history, Latin and Greek for A-levels and I’ve heard they have a very strong classics department as well as good all round academics, is this true?
Thanks!

Hiii, I’m year 11 and unfortunately I can’t answer your question but I am seriously looking at attending Winchester and I met some other girls who may go and I can say that the girls (especially given there’s so few) will almost definitely be 1 very friendly 2 very close with you. As far as I can tell the academics are very good but more so the facilities are very good and are fairly open to everyone. Also if you’re just friendly to the boys and friends with all the girls you’ll inevitably make friends with the boys either through your friends or directly.

I also thought if you do go it’s not bad for us to make friends!!

Hope I could help at least a little!

I'm a student there at the moment actually! wincoll is only going more co-ed. 2 new girls boarding houses are being constructed at the moment next to my own boarding house so you shouldn't worry about the change in environment too much and the girls community are quite close with each other anyway. our year 11 is very strong at classics this year and our classics teachers are very good. I can't say anything about the history department as I do not take the subject. all of the English teachers are very capable. if you're worried about what it might be like at a co-ed I would suggest checking out the 'women at winch' insta account which would give you a better idea of what it is like from the student girls perspective.

I don’t have direct experience with Winchester College, but I’ve heard great things about their academics, especially the Classics department. It’s great that they’re now accepting girls, and from what I know, the girls who’ve joined have said it was an adjustment, but they’ve felt supported and integrated well. Since you’re interested in subjects like English, History, Latin, and Greek, it sounds like it could be a perfect fit for you, especially with their strong Classics program.
