A level options URGENT

I’m due to pick my a levels next month but I have no clue what to pick. I want to go into healthcare but don’t know what a levels to pick regarding the courses. I don’t want to do 2 sciences and neither maths. The only one I know I’m going to do is Pyschology. What are some courses I can go into/ a level subject options I can do if I’m unsure on what specific course I want to do but have a brief idea on healthcare?

Depends on what area of healthcare you want to go into, if you want to study medicine you will almost definitely need biology and chemistry. What are you thinking of doing?

i want to pick the a levels pyschology english lit and maybe health and social care. But I have no idea what kind of careers this would open up for me? I was researching into paediatric nursing or children nursing but I’m unsure as I’ve been told it’s not a career people would recommend. I’m honestly confused on what to do as a whole😭

Its ok its difficult when you're unsure what to do. If that's what you want though then go for it! I would make sure to check uni websites on what a levels they will accept for that course though as they might require another science. Are you very against biology?

I’m not totally against it, just not my strongest in GCSEs currently. I’m more of a humanities/ social sciences type as I’ve done my history gcse one year early and got a 8 (A*), therefore was thinking of taking english lit incase later on i realise i don’t want to pursue healthcare. I just don’t know what courses I’ll be able to do at uni if I take English, Pyschology and Health and Social, or if I take Biology,Pyschology and english? Do you know any good websites I can find information on a level requirements for specific courses?

Many healthcare courses (but not all) do accept psychology to fulfil the science requirement for a course. Have a look at some of the Allied Health Professions, such as Diagnostic Radiographer, Therapeutic Radiographer, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, etc. Speech and Language Therapy might be a good fit for you if you enjoy English and want to work in healthcare. I don't know of any websites where you could find all that information, but if you just go to some general uni websites that offer the courses you are thinking about, they will tell you the grades needed to get in and also if they require any specific a levels. Personally i think if you did bio, eng lit, psych then you would be giving yourself a better advantage as it is a bit more broad and some unis may want bio HOWEVER if you think you might struggle with it then maybe pick something else as its important to play to your advantages. Just be mindful that depending on the uni they might not accept health and social care but definitely have a look as some don't mind.

I am a speech and language therapist and lecturer.

I agree with the suggestions above about your subject choices being perfect for speech and language therapy. Biology is a safer option than health and social care (in my opinion) but only ?one university specifically asks for biology (Newcastle) so you should be fine either way. (If it makes you feel better I actually studied English at degree level then retrained as a mature student so it is okay not to be sure what you want to do just yet).

If you have any questions just let me know or try and/or get some work experience to learn more about the profession.

Some unis and some courses accept psychology for a healthcare and some courses healthcare courses only require one sciencey subject so maybe look at options and entry requirements, then mabye pick biology as another science option as some healthcare courses want two sciences then mabye English like you said but it’s upto u you can always change them when u get to sixth form even a few weeks into sixth form so nothing to stress about right now
